Akatsuki began penning the fantasy romance series with illustrations by Suou under the Dengeki Bunko imprint in April 2021, approximately a year after concluding the Violet Evergarden sequel light novel Ever After. Kadokawa published the eighth volume, Tasogare no Ite (The Archer of Twilight), on December 10 last year.

Nappa Komatsuda began drawing a manga adaptation of Haru no Mai in LaLa magazine in July 2022. Hakusensha published the fifth volume on February 5.

Yuriko Asami began drawing a side story subtitled Hyakka Hyakuyou (One Hundred Songs and One Hundred Pages) on ComicWalker's Comic Dengeki Daioh "g" Web section in May 2023. Kadokawa published the second volume in December 2024.

Yen Press licensed the light novel and first manga adaptation in English in May 2023 and June 2024, respectively. The fourth light novel volume went on sale in December 2024, with the fifth volume planned for an August 12 release. The first manga volume shipped in November 2024, with the second volume going on sale on April 22. Kadokawa Global BookWalker website is publishing the side story manga.

Shunkashuutou Daikousha: Haru no Mai placed second in the Bunkobon (Light Novel) category in the 2022 Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! rankings.

Synopsis
Winter was once the only season in the world-but such an existence was too lonely to bear, and so it created Spring to love. Before long, the earth wished for more time to rest in the cycle, and Summer and Autumn were born. The ones who carry the cycle are called the Agents of the Four Seasons. Hinagiku, the Agent of Spring, disappeared from this land ten years ago, taking the season of spring with her. Now, after incredible hardship, she has returned to restore the cycle to its proper state-and, as in the myth passed down since the dawn of time, she sends her love to Winter. (Source: Yen Press)

@mmcgr94 Do they plan multiple seasons for this show? And what does MAPPA have anything to do with it?

@perseii I know the wait can be hard, but I'd rather they take their time so we get a high-quality anime rather than overburden themselves having to rush to get a poorer quality adaptation out sooner. It is good news in terms of work progress that a trailer has already released though!

@Washizo I'm actually so excited. Like, a shojo from a highly anticipated and storied author in the hands of a reputed studio adapting a manga (or I guess light novel) length that actually could reasonably fit into 1 cours (5 volumes for the spring arc)??? Pinch me because I think I'm dreaming!!!!

@Geark77 The story is divided into arcs that follow different sets of characters, and this anime will specifically adapt the spring arc. So, they'll probably adapt this arc to the end, and then gauge how well the anime does to decide whether to green light adapting the other arcs following different sets of characters into following anime seasons.

Most likely referring to how Mappa took over adapting the rest of Attack on Titan after season 3.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Wit really does all sorts of stuff these days lol. From brainrot comedy to typical battle shounen to typical Shoujo now. Though looking forward.

@Softhenic03 Oh yea that too, but at least Mappa didn't ruin Vinland. I don't think they necessarily "ruined" AOT but it definitely was inferior to what we got from Wit.

@thebrentinator24 Was that meant to be a meme? I wonder if people usually bring this up whenever WIT adapts something.
